Problem: An electronics manufacturer had an immediate need for safe storage in the Midwest. The manufacturer knew the addition of a new line of products would push their distribution center close to capacity. However, they completely underestimated the amount of space the new line of products would take up. As the new product arrived, the center filled up completely. The distribution center staff was overwhelmed. To make matters worse, 25 truckloads of additional product were in route to the distribution center and could not be stopped. The manufacturer was in need of a partner with available storage and staff who could immediately address their pain.
Solution: After a short discovery period, FW was selected based on their experience in the past helping other companies with immediate storage needs. FW owns multiple warehouses around the St. Louis area including one near the distribution center of the electronics manufacturer. FW has been in the logistics supply chain field for more than 60 years. It was also clear to the manufacturer that FW had the staff and capacity to easily handle their evolving storage situation.
The manufacturer was not disappointed. FW was able to rescue the manufacturer in their time of need. In less than 24 hours, FW had repositioned staff and key personnel to unload and safely store the electronics. FW trucking was used to relay the 25 loads between the electronics manufacturer distribution center and the FW warehouse.
Benefit: Within a few short hours of learning of their problem, the manufacturer had partnered with a company that was able to assess what was needed and take quick action. The process worked seamlessly. Eventually the 25 truckloads were absorbed back into the distribution center of the manufacturer. FW was given the chance to show a small piece of their ability to adapt and quickly implement plans. The FW team was given a chance to show the flexibility of their group to adjust to changing circumstances. In the end the manufacturer was able to go ahead with the product roll out as planned.
