Business Situation: A food retailer who used FW Warehousing for food grade storage launched a new flavor of an already successful line of products. The launch included a television and magazine marketing campaign offering coupon savings on the new flavor. Unfortunately the new snack was not selling as quickly as expected. Stock of the new flavor had been over ordered and was not moving as anticipated. From consumer research, the food retailer determined that new flavor was overshadowed by the success of their own line of existing products. Confident that the new flavor would take off given time, the client decided to create a variety pack of the better selling snacks that included the new flavor.
FW Solution: The client came up with a plan to move the existing product, however the plan was dependent on FW for help. The food retailer wanted to open the new product and combine it with the better selling versions to create a variety pack. The FW solutions team was needed to set up and staff an operation that would create the variety packs in a timely fashion. FW pulled staff members from different areas and immediately went to work on the client’s plan. The FW team repackaged the better selling versions of the snack with the new slow selling variety.
Benefits: The client’s strategic move to create a variety pack worked better than expected. Mixed together with the established product, sales of the new flavor began to pick up. While the client waited for sales to pick up on the new snack, the variety pack allowed for the movement of existing stock. When the promotion ended, the FW client had a clearer idea of the sales volume the new product would generate down the road.
