Problem: A food grade retailer needed more space to accommodate their expanding line of goods. The company was out growing their current warehouse space and needed to think in terms of the future. This was the third time that the company had expanded their offerings in five years, but it was the first time they had run into space issues. However this time around they were determined to increase their warehousing space to provide for any future growth. They called upon the FW solutions team to help achieve their goal.
Solution: The FW solutions team took a close look at the problem. They determined the rate of growth, based on the previous five years, to come up with the square footage that would satisfy the needs of their customer for the next five years. After a short discussion with the retailer, the FW team went to work. With the requirements in hand, the FW results team searched the St. Louis real estate market for a match. In a short amount of time the FW team tracked down a few available buildings that met the needs of the client.
FW Warehousing used its extensive knowledge of the St. Louis real estate market to find and acquire a property with the necessary space at a reasonable price. The space was large enough that the customer, even at its current rate of expansion, would not outgrow the facility within the next five years. With the knowledge of the needs of the customers, FW purchased the building and began preparing the building for food grade warehousing.
The new warehouse was inspected and certified for food grade storage in a matter of days. Within a short amount of time the food grade retailer was able to move into the new space.
Benefit: The retailer no longer had to worry about outgrowing the new food grade warehouse. The exercise was a great success because it allowed FW to show their clients some of their knowledge and experience in the St. Louis business environment.
