FW Warehousing is an APHIS Certified Warehouse
FW Warehousing is approved to receive, store and ship animal byproducts consigned directly from foreign establishments. As a 3PL (Third Party Logistics) partner, FW Warehousing can ship the imported items to any APHIS approved facilities in the United States.
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) “is a multi-faceted agency with a broad mission area that includes protecting and promoting U.S. agricultural health, regulating genetically engineered organisms, administering the Animal Welfare Act and carrying out wildlife damage management activities. These efforts support the overall mission of USDA, which is to protect and promote food, agriculture, natural resources and related issues.”
“Established in 1972, APHIS is a relatively new agency, but much of the important work that falls under its mission today has been the responsibility of the USDA for more than 100 years. In fact, for most of the 20th century, the early animal and plant health bureaus within USDA operated independently of one another. The creation of APHIS consolidated these functions. In years since, the agency has continued to expand its mission in order to protect and preserve American agriculture.”
According to the USDA website:
“APHIS serves to facilitate safe trade, monitor the movement of risk material, protect against the introduction of pests, regulate the import and export of plants and help exporters meet the entry requirements of other countries.”
To become APHIS certified, APHIS inspectors visit warehousing facilities to ensure that said facility is in compliance with the stringent USDA requirements as they pertain to APHIS. “APHIS then issues permits for the import, transit and release of regulated animals, animal products, veterinary biologics, plants, plan products, pests, organisms, soil and genetically engineered organisms.”
Mike Cusumano, Safety and Compliance Officer at FW Warehousing, engaged the USDA and APHIS to ensure FW Warehousing complied with the stringent requirements. FW Warehousing’s facilities were inspected as recently as August 23, 2011. The facilities were found in compliance with the USDA regulations and FW Warehousing was granted certification.
According to John Cusuman0, Jr., Vice President of Business Development, the APHIS Certified Warehouse distinction means a lot in today’s global economy: “FW Warehousing has established itself as a market leader. FW receives goods from all over the world – more today than yesterday, and FW Warehousing certainly expects to receive more and more as the company continues to grow. Being an APHIS certified Warehouse means FW Warehousing adheres to the highest standards set forth by the USDA and most important, FW facilities are inspected annually to ensure the warehouses continue to meet or exceed these high standards.”
