Business Situation: Recently a client approached long-time St. Louis warehousing provider FW Warehousing with a storage need that fell outside of conventional warehousing. The company needed to store plastic drainage tubing used to manage and direct groundwater and capture surface runoff. The product is designed for outdoor, underground use. It doesn’t require a climate controlled environment for storage. In fact, it doesn’t even need to be stored under a roof. The plastic drainage tubing is unaffected by heat, cold, moisture or UV light.
Solution: Having the necessary space to adequately store the product was not an issue. FW Warehousing has more than four million square feet of owned and operated warehouse space in Missouri, Illinois and Indiana. FW could easily store the product in one of its warehouse facilities, but the FW Solutions team realized that based on the characteristics of the plastic drainage tubing, there was a more cost-effective storage option for this client’s goods in an outdoor storage yard.
With an abundance of space in its trailer yards surrounding the FW Centreville, Illinois, warehouse, this St. Louis warehousing provider’s solutions team was able to fence off a section of one of the trailer lots to create an outdoor storage yard for the client. This outdoor storage solution met the client’s needs in the most cost-effective way possible.
All that was required to implement this solution was a section of fencing to close off a portion of one of the trailer yards and an entry gate to control access in and out of the new storage yard. The gate and fencing were installed quickly and the client was able to begin shipping in its product in short order.
Benefits: Rather than simply offer a standard solution to house the plastic drainage tubing in one of its warehouse facilities, FW was able to provide a customized solution for the client that fit the requirements of the goods they needed to store. By creating an outdoor storage yard, FW was able to offer a much more cost-effective storage solution for the client’s product.
The end result is a customized solution with rapid implementation that provided a significantly lower cost storage option which met the client’s needs and saved them money. This creative approach to meeting its client’s needs is what sets this leading St. Louis warehousing company apart from all the rest.
